Black Friday Wish List Shopping Spree Giveaway

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends! I imagine this week will be filled with stuffing turkeys, cleaning the house, and cringing at having to sit beside Great Aunt Bessie who spits when she talks. And don’t forget the shopping.

Yes, Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is often the official kickoff to Christmas shopping.

Black Friday shopping?? In these crowds?? I don’t think so.

Do you have your list? Have you checked it twice? Are you flyers sorted, circled and prioritized? That’s what my mom used to do every Friday night to prepare for garage sale cruising on Saturday morning. She had strategy. We had a plan: get in, get what you came for, get out.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like big crowds. Especially aggressive crowds who have been waiting in line since finishing the last slice of pumpkin pie and are hopped up on sugar, caffeine, and the rush of getting a steal of a deal. That’s why, this time of year, I like to do all of my shopping online.

Why venture out into the cold weather at an ungodly hour of the “morning” (I don’t call anything morning unless it’s after 7 a.m. …), when you can play Santa from the comfort of your couch wrapped up in your Snuggie. And while you’re buying something for everyone else, why don’t you get yourself something nice? You deserve it!

This is my idea of crowd control. Shopping from my couch...with a Snuggie.

This is my idea of crowd control. Shopping from my couch…with a Snuggie.

I want to help take the stress out of your holiday shopping. No, I’m not offering to do it for you. But, I bet a $150 Amazon gift card would help, wouldn’t it?

Here’s your task:

  • If you had $150 to spend on yourself at or, what would you buy?
  • Go to (or Canadians, … I know, I know, it’s US Thanksgiving, but I live near the US border, so I deem Canadians eligible to play too. :) )
  • Surf around in your favorite areas and pick out what you’d hypothetically buy.
  • Tell/and or show (with a link) what you’d get in comments below. Don’t forget to tell us all why!

Possibilities are endless.

What would you spend $150 on?

  • Perhaps one of the Best Books of 2013? Amazon picked Nora Roberts’ Whiskey Beach as their top Romance pick of the year! Have you read it yet? I haven’t.  I better put it on my wish list! Of course, there’s a couple books out there by this new romance author *cough cough*. She’s had some pretty good reviews. People seem to like her work. *cough cough* (it’s me). And since you’d have $150 to spend, why not check out the Kindle selection? I love my Kindle Paperwhite. It’s backlit so I don’t risk falling out of bed trying to turn my bedside lamp in my sleepy book-drunk haze.
  • Maybe you’re looking for a personal chef?? While I don’t think there are hunky chefs available on Amazon (oh, how I wish there were…), maybe a slow cooker would help to minimize your time in the kitchen and maximize your time with your family, or for yourself in the bathtub with a great book! There are so many great recipes for slow cookers. I use mine for everything from spaghetti squash to jambalaya (yum yum!)
  • Or, maybe you want something totally luxurious, just for you cause hey, it’s not your money, right? Maybe a beautiful sparkly necklace for you to give to your hubby or boyfriend to wrap up to give to you at Christmas? Because, bless their hearts, sometimes men just don’t get what a woman wants.

I’m really looking forward to see what you all “spend”! While there can only be one winner, this might help to spur your wish list, because, if you’re like me, you tell everyone you don’t know what you want for Christmas, to not get you anything…and then on December 23rd you come up with some fabulous ideas and everyone gets mad at you because you didn’t tell them sooner. *bats eyelashes innocently*

So, my friends, get “shopping”! Have a great time and come on back and comment with what you would buy with $150 on Amazon. Don’t forget to share the links so I know you’ve done your homework!

I’ll pick one winner at random on Wednesday November 26th at 11pm EST. Stay tuned because I want to make sure you contact me quickly so I can send you your gift card and you can do all your Black Friday shopping online! I’ll also be posting the winner’s name on my Facebook page if you want to tune in there.

Can’t wait!

On your mark…

Get set…

One of my best friends, Karen DeLabar, is still going through financial difficulties with the many medical bills she’s had mounting up since her bout with TSS. Not to mention she found out that she was pregnant with her third child while they were literally wheeling her down to another surgery. If I won I would put the gift card towards an item she has on her baby registry that I know would normally strain their meager budget, the convertible Graco Stylus Classic Connect Stroller/Infant Car Seat (

    • admin November 25, 2013 1:08 pm #

You are such a selfless and wonderful person, Janelle. Karen is lucky to call you a friend.

First of all, this is an awesome giveaway, and I wanna win!!! (fingers crossed). But, because I’m a stand-up gal, and Xtina is my pal, I’ll share the contest…

If I had $150 to spend on Amazon, I would buy as much off my wish list as I could!!!! (And indeed, I want a Kindle, but I would likely NOT use this gift card toward that… I’ve been saving my pennies!)

Why are there so many items on my wish list? Well, being unemployed for two years meant NOT buying stuff I wanted. Just stuff I needed. And then, I had to *really really* need it. So, in the meantime, I’ve just added… and added… and added… with the hope that someday I’d be able to get some of these items.

And yes, you’ll see a LOT of books by Terry Pratchett and Charles de Lint. These are two of my very favorite authors, and I’d like to have a complete collection of all their work.

And, I’d like to know: What is on *your* wish list?

  3. Elaine A LeDoux November 25, 2013 2:03 pm #

To heck with the gift card, although I wouldn’t throw it out an open window. I just really enjoyed what you wrote….a good laugh is as valuable to me as anything I could buy on amazon. By the way, you should be a model for those blanket thingies, you’re so pretty you make them actually look good. Happy holiday shopping from your couch!

    • admin November 25, 2013 8:45 pm #

Elaine, so sweet – thank you! By the way, that’s not me in my Snuggie. That’s the model on the Snuggie website. She makes them look good. Though, perhaps with a pocket for a bunch of books and some “bling”, I could totally rock it. :)

  4. Karla Nellenbach November 25, 2013 3:05 pm #

Me, I would use that $$ toward a rowing machine. I’ve wanted one for like EVER.

Of course, there are books, books, and did I mention all the BOOKS that I need?!? the new JD Robb (Nora Roberts’ alter-ego) comes out in feb. then there’s Courtney Summers, Sarah Dessen, Allison Brennan, Erica Spindler, and of course John Green who have books coming out early next year (also some that are currently out now that I haven’t gotten yet. I’m soooo behind on my reading list. :)

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:56 pm #

Oh….rowing! Sounds fun! Row and read, row and read, row and read. Or…maybe you should order up a hot guy to row while you read. Right?? RIGHT???? 😉

  5. Deana Borth November 25, 2013 3:37 pm #

If i had $150 on amazon i would use it towards a pair of “beats” headphones …

I know they are kind of excessive but if you listen to music these are like the ultimate headphones.

I listen to music in order to quell my anxiety, a lot of times the only way i can go out in public is if i have my itunes blaring in my ears to act as a barrier between me and all the phobias, irritants, etc. music allows me to be part of the world and these headphones have been my holy grail ever since i tried a pair at the store several months ago.

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:55 pm #

Music can be so helpful to help us face the world. Good luck.

      Good thinking!

  7. Cindy Bartolotta November 25, 2013 4:45 pm #

Awesome give-away. If I won it, I would purchase Preston/Childs new book, White Fire and other’s I am missing by them. Yes, I want to read them, but my sister is blind and really loves them. I read her books over the telephone. Some she can get the audio version, but there are books I am missing that she hasn’t heard. This way, two people benefit from the same giveaway. Thanks for the chance.

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:48 pm #

You’re right, Cindy. What a wonderful way for you to enjoy books with your sister and how lovely that you take the time to read to her over the phone.

  8. Marcy Meyer November 25, 2013 4:53 pm #

I would buy my dad a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas!

Then, with the rest of the gift card, I’d buy me some books!

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  9. Chris Cantley November 25, 2013 5:03 pm #

I know it’s not exciting or luxurious, but it gets really cold in the apartment. I am thinking of my wife, son and kitties :)

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:46 pm #

According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, we need to take care of the bare necessities first. I would say that heat is one of them. :)

  10. Fran Swarts November 25, 2013 5:12 pm #

Well first off I would get Season 4 of Vampire Diaries as I have found its one of the few shows he will actually watch with me, Then I would get All of Nicole Edwards books in paperback because I think they are great. Thanks so much for the giveaway.

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:45 pm #

      TV shows and books. YAY!!!

  11. Sharon Wise November 25, 2013 5:38 pm #

I would buy my daughter a kindle fire for Christmas. She is a senior in High School, and she gets straight A’s. She goes to High School in the mornings, and takes college classes in the afternoon. The high school pays for the college classes, since she is on the honor roll. I was laid off my job of 17 years, due to cutbacks. I know she has wanted one for a long time, but with me trying to find work, money is really tight, and I do not know if I am even going to be able to afford to get her a graduation present, if I don’t find something pretty soon.

    • Sharon Wise November 25, 2013 5:43 pm #

I forgot to put in the link:,free3g,9.7″EInkDisplay,3GworksGlobally:kindleStore

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:44 pm #

Your daughter is very ambitious and you sound like a very supportive mom.

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:43 pm #

Betsy, there’s nothing wrong with some self-care. Good luck!

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:42 pm #

Yum! If you win, we all know who will be taking us out for the best biscuits at Cracker Barrel!! :)

  12. RB Wood November 25, 2013 5:59 pm #

It’s simple really…I would pickup a few extra things for my children as it’s been a dollar-stretching year. First off, the telescope my daughter wanted–I have a few astronomy books and I have a ‘evening with the stars’ planned with a local astronomy group:

For My son, it would be a 3-month subscription to for iOS/Android game programming courses (I can pay using Amazon) or a complete set of iOS Programmers guides–I’ve told him if he develops (and sells) a game in the app store before he graduates high school, I’d pay for him to go to college for game programming.

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:41 pm #

Those are really thoughtful gift ideas, RB.

  13. kellee November 25, 2013 6:30 pm #

If I had $150 to spend on amazon I would buy paperbacks of all my favorite books that I don’t have yet!! I’m still a paperback girl, and I really hate reading on screens!! And then of course, I would buy little gifts for my husband and our families for Christmas that would be unique and not something you find every day in stores :)

Here is the first book I would pre order myself in hardcover since I am a huge Jamie McGuire fan:

Thank you for this amazing giveaway!!

    • admin November 25, 2013 6:40 pm #

There’s nothing like having your own book collection to touch, smell, and hold, is there?

  14. Jena Roudebush November 25, 2013 6:33 pm #

If I won, I would buy something for my husband! He works so hard, he is in school and working for a few hours a day. He has straight A’s!! I am so proud of him!! We are not going to be able to spend much on Christmas. I would love to get him something nice! I would put it toward Beats Headphones. (A manly color of course.)–Ear-Headphone-Pink/dp/B008EQ1YZW/ref=sr_1_22_m?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1385421586&sr=1-22&keywords=beats+headphones+wireless I love him so much!! 16. nikki November 25, 2013 6:54 pm #

Ok if I win, I would put it towards my childs wish list of gifts he wants. I may buy me a pair of jeans out of it too, but, let’s face it truthfully it would go towards my son as a mommy you learn to sacrifice everything. I would also buy some stuff for needy kids that’s here around me. My sons school does this for xmas they put tags with # s on it for children that needs things ,like coats, clothes toys and I would love to be able to be a secret santa and put smiles on those little faces that don’t get much or have much, I would be able to buy them some clothes and a toy also. I have a tag already for a ten year old little girl her wish list was clothes, jewlery, a furby, art supplies, shoes and scarves so, that’s what I would put that money towards :) we are a family of three and we live solely on my hubbys income , in which he only makes 8.50 an hour so yes that would be awesome to be able to give presents to all surrounding us this year

  17. Juli Hall November 25, 2013 7:06 pm #

Awesome giveaway!! I would buy lots and lots of books off my wish list. Thanks so much :)

  18. Crystal Blood November 25, 2013 7:27 pm #

I would love to get a food saver. It would save our family so much money to be able to vacuum seal our food. Also I would love to be able to have a stockpile of food in case of an emergency.

  19. Chrissy Peebles November 25, 2013 7:37 pm #

My kindle broke. :( I’d buy a new kindle, and then buy all of your books, and then leave reviews on them. I LOVE romance and can’t stop reading! I want to thank you for such a wonderful contest and opportunity. You are such a generous person. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ((hugs))

  20. Lisa Goldman November 25, 2013 8:05 pm #

Wow! What a wonderful contest. First I’d like to say thank you for offering it :)

If I was to win, I’d get a little for me because I’m a huge book addict. I read all kinds of fiction book both self published and ones from big publishing houses. I’m also a series person. I’d love to read sequels from Kiersten White, Richelle Mead and Wendy Higgins.

I’d also get gifts for my four kids and husband. We live on one income so this would help drastically. My twins love Monster High dolls. So that would be a must. My son is harder because he is a middle teenager, although I’d hope to get a chocolate fountain. Yes, it’s on his Christmas list. My oldest is by far the hardest. She is 19 and moderately handicapped both physically and mentally. She does, however, want Just Dance 2014, which she can play sitting down too. I think she just likes the music and it gets her moving a little;) My husband likes cleaning his car and would love a value pack like this one

Hmm…I didn’t add them all up but I’m suspect I was well over the $150.

Crossing my fingers I win. :)

  21. Yvonne C November 25, 2013 8:34 pm #

Thanks for the fantastic giveaway!! I would love to get a ton of paperbacks for an author signing I am going to in March with some of my favorite authors. It’s definitely going to break the bank but I am so excited.

  22. Yvette November 25, 2013 8:40 pm #

I wish I could post the link to my Amazon cart. I have so many paperbacks on my wish list. There’s an author event coming up next year that I really want to go to so I need to start saving up for paperbacks. R.K. Lilley is one of the authors so I’d love to buy as many of her books as I can.

  23. Missy Morrison Goodsell November 25, 2013 9:29 pm #

I’d like to start by saying thank you for an awesome giveaway :-) If i won I would use the winnings to purchase books for my grandchildren for christmas as money is extremely tight with my husbands oncologist, infusion & medication costs.

  24. Tina McClay November 25, 2013 9:46 pm #

I need foot wear so I would like some boots The rest would be spent on my girls.

  25. Sarah November 25, 2013 9:47 pm #

I’d end up using the gift card toward toys for my two God Daughters. They’ve had a tough year and it would be awesome to be able to surprise them with even more come Christmas morning :)

  26. Sharon November 25, 2013 10:23 pm #

I would honestly buy my 5 year old daughter the Leap pad learning tablet that she’s been asking me to buy her for months now. Electronics are so ridiculously expensive! Oh and I have a book wish list a mile long and I would love to buy a few that have been on my list for a while. :) Happy Holidays and thanks for the giveaway. <3

  27. Danielle @ Consuming Worlds November 25, 2013 10:36 pm #

Wow! What a holiday giveaway. It is not often I get to buy myself something, so this time I will buy myself Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich. This is the one series I have been reading forever and I am dying to know what crazy mayhem Stephanie Plum is going to get herself into in this tale.

With the rest of the money I would finish up my Christmas shopping for my boys. Like most parents I still have shopping to do, so this would come in handy. My son wants Minecraft Legos, one of the only places you can buy them is on Amazon. I would also buy my family Call of Duty Ghosts, so we could game together. For my hubby I would him the DeLorean Lego set.

Of course if I actually got the GC this whole list would got out the window….I would probably only get things for my kids. :)

    Thanks for the giveaway Christina!

  28. Shirley Williamson November 25, 2013 10:38 pm #

So i would buy an American Girl Doll for my granddaughter.
She has been sad this year because my son and her mother divorced so that is the only thing she asked for. It is really expensive but sge broke my heart when she said. “Grandma I just need a friend”
So whether I win or not I will find a way to get it for my 6yr old princess! :)

  29. Alex Kimmell November 25, 2013 10:56 pm #

Now I could be completely selfish and tell Hanukkah Harry to bring something for me through the doggy door. BUT, despite what you might have heard, I don’t want to be an ass.
My younger minion really REALLY wants to get the Disney Infinity for his wii.

My older minion is autistic and his favorite thing to do is color! So i’d get him a BOATLOAD of crayons. Particularly Black because he finishes them first.

And last but not least, my wife LOVES to Quilt, Knit and Crochet. I’d love to spoil her with a ton of Crochet supplies and yarn, etc.

(Of course, I wouldn’t mind a typewriter or a Kindle Fire for lil’ ol’ me)

  30. Dana November 25, 2013 11:19 pm #

I would really love to win so that I have assistance getting some of the things that my kids are really hoping for this year.

  31. Donna Reynolds November 26, 2013 1:25 am #

If I absolutely had to spend it on myself I would buy some cloths I have gone without a lot of things to make sure my kids have everything they need and I know some of the thing I get them they don’t need like a pair of name brad shoes but school was so bad for me I never had nice things and was picked on every day and I try not to let my kids stand out I never want them to feel the way I do, I have one pair of jeans I can wear and three shirts and I lost about 75 pounds but most likely I would use most of the money for Christmas for my husband and kids I have never really had much so I don’t feel the need to buy for myself. Thank you for the amazing chance.

i would buy a kindle fire for my best friend for her birthday/christmas present

  33. crystalgrister November 26, 2013 9:04 am #

If I had $150 I would use it to buy what items I can in my wishlist on Amazon for my husband. I have saved some things I want to get for him. He is a logger and is out in the weather no matter what nature puts upon him to deal with. He is the hardest working person I’m know and for once would like to give to him, rather than him to me.

  34. Crystal Rister November 26, 2013 9:26 am #

If I had $150 dollars I would use it to buy what items I can from the list of things I saved on my wishlist for my husband. He is a logger and the hardest working person I know, putting himself out there in whatever mother nature puts upon him to deal with. If it’s 102 degrees outside, he’s working. If it’s 20 below outside with snow pouring down, he’s working. The rain doesn’t run him home either. I love the chance to give to him rather than him to me for once. He has done so much for us and our children.

My husband just got a boat that needs a lot of work, so I would get him a radio since the one that is in it is broken This one comes with 4 speakers and a cover which is perfect at $99.24.

I would get him this Bungee dock line at $9.99

And I would get him 2 of these In case something went wrong at 42.34 :)

    Thank you very much :)

I know this is supposed to be a wish list for me, but honestly, I’d use the gift card for the one thing on my daughter’s Christmas list that is JUST over $150…an iPod nano…in GREEN!

She’s been wanting an mp3 player for almost a year now and I keep telling her to put it on her list for Santa (she’s 8 years old and still believes), when in reality I already knew my husband and I wanted to get it for her. It’s just hard to spend that kind of money when it isn’t a birthday or Christmas.

Winning this gift card would take care of that and would make her so stinking happy! And in a way it would be getting me one step closer to something I really want and need…a new laptop! The money we’d save by not having to purchase the mp3 player would go toward my laptop…yay!

  37. Rebecca November 26, 2013 11:47 am #

Well I would buy the newest kindle fire and with the left over money I would buy one bottle of bubble bath as many books as I can with the left over money You did say after all it was for me I would slip off to the bathroom turn my music on clump on the bubble bath put on my head phones( to tune out the world) and read read baby read. I would start my Christmas shopping!! This year I have a techno music lover, so I’ve been looking at some CD’s that I know he’ll appreciate… like this great artist:

I’d also get some books that have long been on my wishlist from some great authors I’ve come to discover recently! It’d be nice to be able to support them :)
